faux pa
fake father.
here’s a copy paste from an ol’ text that I was waiting to post until I was finished with but nothing ever gets finished until it’s shared anyway so here it is incomplete.
From March.

2025 PODCAST RECOMMENDATIONS:
As someone increasingly incapable of spending time with their own thoughts, I’ve decided to collect and share this list of podcasts that help me avoid self-reflection while simultaneously teaching me cool things & as an added bonus spend less time on the apps.
What a world we live in!
In no particular order:
TWENTY THOUSAND HERTZ
Ok this one IS in particular order. I love this podcast. My number one fave to recommend. The creator, Dallas Taylor, is an audio engineer so you know this is fun to listen to on headphones. Do the dishes AND learn what my cat’s meow might mean? Fold laundry AND track the evolution of the Zelda soundtrack? Don’t mind if I do! Pick an episode title that sounds intriguing and start there.
2. ONE SONG
The latest to visit my earholes, I’m enjoying the hell out of these guys. They choose a song & talk about the society and pop culture going on around when the song was released and then get into the nitty gritty of individual tracks (stems) from the recording. Their diverse musical tastes are sure to tickle your ear’s taint. Pick a song you know(& love) and start there.
3. SIGNIFICANT OTHERS
From TeamCoco, this podcast is created by Eliza O-brien, spouse of comedian Conan O’Brien, and its focus is on the partner(s) of significant members throughout history.
You’ve heard of so&so but did you know that without their partner, you probably wouldn’t have? Oh John Doe invented life changing example A? Well Jane Doe saved John’s life (more than once.)
As someone graciously leaning on an amazing partner, this one resonates with me.
4. STOP PODCASTING YOURSELF
A Canadian comedy podcast featuring comedians talking to comedians? Sound boring? It’s (usually) not!
I was turned on to this pod when I would hear laughing from the other room & when asking why Molly was laughing, inevitably, the answer was this podcast.
My fave segment is “overheards” at the end. They recount things they’ve overheard in public.
If I were to submit something it would be when I was getting into a car when parked on a bridge in Des Moines and I heard a girl walking by tell her friends, “You think I’d swim if I fell in? Bitch, I’d drown.”
5. SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW
Not to be confused with “STUFF…”, this one constantly teaches me cool shit.
From informational one-liners to in-depth interviews with the pro’s, SOMETHING always has something I repeat to somebody else.
A complaint tho is that the hosts voice is so smooth that he slips into ads without me noticing. I don’t need anymore mattresses! We gotta real princess and the pea situation over here.
6. THIS DAY IN ESOTERIC POLITICAL HISTORY
Sometimes I wonder what it might be like to be highly educated… Luckily, this podcast and these people who’ve done more writing and thinking than I’ll ever do exist and they’re here to do historical research and present it to me in an entertaining fashion for free. What a world. Out of curiosity, let’s check in on today’s headline. (4/1/25 — “Carter’s Unbelievable Rabbit Vendetta”)
7. SIDEDOOR
Through the ‘sidedoor’ of the Smithsonian
8. DISGRACELAND
I, like you, have had my true crime phases but this is the only true crime pod on the list. Not an accident that it’s also a music podcast. Premeditated even? I like music (& backgrounds)!
Hear wild accounts of iconic pop-culture musicians told through compelling story-telling by the host. If it didn’t make my list it would be a real. . . disgrace.
9. SOUND OPINIONS
Another music pod. This one out of Chicago. When Max & I have traveled internationally we find easiest to explain, “near Chicago” when people ask where we’re from. That makes this a local pod.
I first heard of these guys when they were at the DMMC(Des Moines Music Coalition) Music University years back. Wally was allotted some tickets because his band in which I played keys had done a DMMC gig earlier that summer. Secret Freedom!
Anyway, these guys did a talk plus Q&A about the music industry, sharing with us some sound advice so then I began listening to their pod. They do a great job of sharing diverse tastes while still plugging local stuff.
I actually had to quit listening to them after Jim was shitting on fingerpicking because I was trying to learn how to fingerpick and record a fingerpicking album lol. I forgive us, Jim.
P.s. We also saw Andrew W.K. that year & he seemed like a real solid dood.
10. I could do ten but instead I’ll just do

& that was copy & paste time with Adam. I’m using this typing to try and rehab my broken finger now. The surgeon said she wants me to move these fingers now. Me too, Doc!
Day two out of the cast. Heading to writing sesh soon. Shadows of the Heart episode 3. You’ll hear more about both of those things later I reckon.
Heck maybe I’ll even come back & add a few hyperlinks but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
Peace & Loaf Y’all
